Child Health Plus

Child Health Plus (CHP) is a New York State program to help families provide health insurance for their children.

Expanded Benefits Package Now in Effect!

Child Health Plus (CHP) covers:

• Well-child care
• Physical exams
• Immunizations
• Diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury
• X-rays and lab tests
• Emergency care
• Prescription and non-prescription drugs if ordered by a physician
• Inpatient hospital medical or surgical care
• Emergency ambulance transportation to a hospital
• Outpatient surgery
• Short-term therapeutic outpatient services (e.g., chemotherapy, hemodialysis)
• Limited inpatient and outpatient treatment for alcoholism, substance abuse, and mental health
• Speech & Hearing Services
• Vision Care (emergency, preventive, & routine care)
• Dental Care (emergency, preventive, & routine care)
• Durable Medical Equipment

Basically, most of your child's health needs can be covered by Child Health Plus.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR CHILD HEALTH PLUS?

To be eligible for Child Health Plus, a child must:

• Be under the age of 19
• Be a New York State resident
• Not be eligible or enrolled in Medicaid
• Have limited or no health insurance
• Even if your family income is high, you can enroll your child in Child Health Plus

HOW MUCH DOES CHILD HEALTH PLUS COST?

The cost of Child Health Plus depends on the family's income and the number of people in the family. Child Health Plus may be free or have a small monthly cost.
