RC2 Recalls Toy Keys Due to Choking Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Toy Keys
Units: About 275,000
Importer/Distributor: RC2 Brands Inc., of Oak Brook, Ill. The recalled products are marketed under RC2's Learning Curve and The First Years brands.
Hazard: The colored top portion of the keys can crack, resulting in the release of small parts, which poses a choking hazard to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: RC2 has received four reports of cracking. No injuries have been reported.
Description: "Shake 'n Jingle Keys," "Shake & Jingle Keys," "My Jingle Keys" all by The First Years and the John Deere "Real Keys" are toy keys, with three colored keys attached to a blue, red or green remote control with electronic features. Various colored buttons on the remote activate sounds. Only toy keys with the letter "F" in the date code stamp listed between date codes 2015F01 through 2636F04 on the packaging and product are involved in the recall. The date code can be found on the back of the remote control. Toy keys with "TE" in the date code or yellow sides on the remote are not included in this recall.
Sold at: Department stores and independent toy stores nationwide from August 2005 through October 2006 for about $6.

Name of Product: Flashing Pacifiers
Units: About 237,000
Importers/Retailers: Rhode Island Novelty, of Providence, R.I.; Hayes Specialties Corp., of Saginaw, Mich.; My Bargain Bin LLC., of New Castle, Del.; Ravesupply.com, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Vistawholesale.com, of Greencastle, Ind.; Xtreme Jewelry, of New York, N.Y.; Intertradecorp.com, of Cheverly, Md.; Litesrus.com, of San Jose, Calif.; and Dollar Days International LLC, of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Hazard: These pacifiers failed to meet federal safety standards for pacifiers. The nipple can separate from the shield easily, posing a choking hazard. Some pacifiers were sold with necklaces that pose a strangulation hazard, and one of the necklaces has beads that can come loose, which poses an aspiration hazard. Though they are marketed for older children, they could be given to babies, and can cause serious injury or death.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The units involved are flashing pacifiers and flashing pacifiers with whistles. The pacifiers are clear or colored purple, blue, pink or green. The pacifiers have five flashing LED lights that are red and blue, red and light green and orange. Some pacifiers are sold with a rainbow cord that is attached to handles, and some cords have breakaway connectors. One pacifier has multi-colored beads on the cords in the shapes of barrels, trains, boats and various animals.
Pacifiers were sold in clamshell packages. The packaging has a warning that states they are for "12+ Years" or "6+ Years." Some of the products have a warning on the packaging that they are not a real pacifier, but a practical joke. The chart found in the press release on CPSC's web site provides additional information about the products sold and what is written on the packaging.
Sold at: Novelty shops, toy stores, carnivals, amusement parks and by Web retailers nationwide from January 2003 through September 2006 for between $0.55 and $13.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should take these pacifiers away from young children immediately and dispose of them. Consumers can also return the pacifiers to the retailers for a refund.

Hazard: The wooden rings on the stuffed toy can break, posing a small parts choking hazard to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: Gund has received four reports from consumers about the wooden rings on the toys breaking, including one report of a child mouthing small pieces. No injuries were reported.
Description: The product is a baby activity toy available in various animal shapes. It consists of a soft, stuffed body with a rattle component inside the body and two smooth wooden rings attached to loops at the end of each arm. The product is available in four different styles: Rumba Lion Activity Toy with style number 58553, Gazoo Giraffe Activity Toy with style number 58554; Wango Horse Activity Toy with style number 58555, and Tippy Cow Activity Toy with style number 58556. "Woodles(tm)" and the style number are located on the sewn-in label.
Sold by: Independent specialty toy stores nationwide and in Canada from June 2005 through April 2006 for about $12.

Remote-Control Helix Micro Helicopter Toys Recalled for Burn Hazard

Hazard: The power supply controller can overheat posing a burn hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: Spin Master has received 11 reports of the toy overheating, including two fires and one report of a consumer receiving minor skin burns.
Description and Models: The recalled remote control toy helicopters are lightweight, made of plastic, and measure 7 inches from end-to-end. Designs are printed on the helicopter's body. The helicopter comes with a control unit and a charger and rechargeable batteries are pre-installed in the fuselage. This recall involves toys one of the following date codes: 06XXXXHM2, 06XXXXHM8, 06XXXXHM186. The date codes are located on a sticker on the bottom of the helicopter's body and on the inside of the controller's battery compartment. Toys currently on retail shelves or having a date code ending in 386 are not included in this recall.
Sold at: National retailers from July 2006 through early November 2006 for about $100.

Hazard: The handles on the puzzle pieces can come off, posing a choking hazard to young children. Also, the tips of the nails on the inside shelf of the puzzle table could be exposed, posing a laceration or puncture hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: Target has received two reports of the pegs coming off of the puzzle pieces. In one of these reports, a child was found to be mouthing the pegs. No other injuries were reported relating to these hazards.
Description: This recall involves a "Play Wonder" brand puzzle table that contains three nine-piece wooden puzzles inside the table. They are light blue with paw prints painted across the top of the table. The table is about 13-inches high when assembled and has green sides. The "Play Wonder" logo is located in the front lower right corner of the packaging. Item number 204/12/0162 is located in the front upper right corner of the packaging.

Serious Injuries Prompt Recall of Mattel's Polly Pocket Magnetic Play Sets
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Products: Polly Pocket dolls and accessories with magnets
Units: About 2.4 million play sets (an additional 2 million play sets were sold worldwide)
Importer: Mattel Inc., of El Segundo, Calif.
Hazard: Tiny magnets inside the dolls and accessories can fall out undetected by parents and caregivers. The magnets can be swallowed, aspirated by young children or placed by a child in their nose or ears.
When more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation, infection or blockage, which can be fatal. Aspiration to the lungs requires immediate surgery. Magnets placed in the nose or ears can cause swelling and be difficult to remove.
Incidents/Injuries: CPSC is aware of 170 reports of the small magnets coming out of these recalled toys. There were three reports of serious injuries to children who swallowed more than one magnet. All three suffered intestinal perforations that required surgery. A 2-year-old child was hospitalized for seven days and a 7-year-old child was hospitalized for 12 days. An 8-year-old child was also hospitalized.
Description: The recalled Polly Pocket play sets contain plastic dolls and accessories that have small magnets. The magnets measure 1/8 inch in diameter and are imbedded in the hands and feet of some dolls, and in the plastic clothing, hair pieces and other accessories to help the pieces attach to the doll or to the doll's house. The model number is printed on the bottom of the largest pieces on some of the play sets.
Contact Mattel if you cannot find a model number on your product to determine if it is part of the recall. Polly Pocket magnetic play sets currently on store shelves are not included in this recall.
Sold at: Discount department stores and toy stores from May 2003 through September 2006 for between $15 and $30.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take these recalled toys away from children and contact Mattel to arrange for the return of the sets and to receive a voucher for a replacement toy of the customer's choice, up to the value of the returned product.
