WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of product: Boy's Jackets with an attached compass
Units: About 2,700
Distributor: H & M, of New York, N.Y.
Hazard: The attached compass on these jackets can break, posing a choking hazard for young children. Additionally, the liquid mineral oil, inside the compass can be harmful if swallowed.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm received one report of a child outside of the U.S. who began to choke on a broken piece of the attached compass.
No injuries have been reported.
Description: The recalled product is a boy's cotton canvas jacket made exclusively for children in sizes 18M to size 6Y. It has style number
93196 written on the inside care label. There is an attached removable compass on the side. The compasses are copper or turquoise colored, about 2.75-inches long, and have a clip to attach to the jacket.
Sold at: H & M stores nationwide from February 2006 through October 2006 for $30.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the compass from the jacket and throw it away, or mail the compass to H & M to receive a store discount coupon.

Cobmex Inc. Recalls Youth Jackets with Drawstrings Due to Strangulation Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of product: Cobmex Youth Jackets with Drawstrings
Units: About 16,000
Manufacturer: Cobmex Inc., of Lakewood, Calif.
Hazard: The recalled jackets have drawstrings in the hood and waist, or only at the waist. Children can get entangled and strangle in drawstrings that can catch on playground equipment, fences or tree branches. In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The nylon, zipper front jackets were sold in youth sizes and have a Cobmex neck label. The jackets were manufactured in various colors, including navy, black, green, red and wine. Only youth-size jackets with drawstrings are included in the recall.
Sold at: Children's clothing and school uniform stores nationwide from January 2006 through February 2007 for about $30.
Manufactured in: Korea
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard or return the jacket to the store where purchased for a refund.

Description: The recalled necklaces are multi-colored pendants shaped as
hearts, crosses, moons, feet, stars, dolphins, shamrocks, teardrops,
spiders, flip-flop sandals and butterflies that hang from a black cord.
"Mood Necklace" is printed on the front of the packaging and Item
#AP-R428 is printed on a sticker on the back of the packaging.

Description: The recall involves Cooky Stationery Sets, which include a
pencil, various color markers, plastic scissors, erasers and the razor
blade cutter. The cardboard backing of the set reads, "Cooky Staitonery
(sic) Set." "Cooky Stationery" is written on the erasers and markers.
Sold at: Dollar stores in northern California from January 2005 through
March 2007 for about $1.

Hazard: These toys contain high levels of lead in the paint, which is
toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health
effects. Also, the toys have sharp points, posing a laceration hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: This recall involves three styles of "Elite Operations"
brand toy sets. The military-style play sets contain light and sound
vehicles, action figures and accessories. Models included in this recall
are: Super Rigs Transport Vehicle (Item # 087286), Command Patrol Center
(Item # 920625) and Troop Carrier (Item # 773967). The item numbers are
located on the back of the packaging above the barcode. Toy sets sold
prior to January 2006 are not included in this recall. No other "Elite Operations" brand toys are affected by this recall.

through early February 2007 for between $15 and $30.

Description: The recalled children's necklaces have metal pendants shaped as monkeys, dolphins,and frogs holding colored marbles, a fleur de lis painted in various colors, a silver and black fairy, silver-colored letters "BFF" with rhinestones, and tiny handcuffs painted in various colors. The pendants hang from silver-colored chains.
"Claire's" or "Claire's best friends forever" is printed on the packaging.

Infantino Recalls Infant Sling Carriers Due to Fall Hazard

Name of product: SlingRider Infant Carriers
Units: About 100,000
Manufacturer: Infantino LLC, of San Diego, Calif.
Hazard: The plastic slider on the fabric strap can break. This can cause the strap supporting the carrier to release and infants to fall out of the carrier.
Incidents/Injuries: Infantino has received 10 reports of plastic sliders breaking, including eight reports of babies falling out of the carriers.
There were four reports of impact injuries where the child was taken to the emergency room. One of these children fractured her skull.
Description: This recall involves the Infantino SlingRider(tm) carriers with item numbers: 141-210; 151-210; 151-528; and 151-534. The
SlingRider(tm) consists of a fabric carrier with a strap attached that is worn by the user to carry an infant up to 20 pounds. The carriers are sold in black or khaki. "Infantino" is printed on the plastic slider located on the strap. The item number is printed on a label inside the
SlingRider.(tm) Products labeled "Made in Thailand" or "New 2007 Design"
are not included in the recall.
Sold at: Target Stores, Babies R Us, BJ's Wholesale Club, Modecraft and other retailers nationwide, by catalog and online from July 2006 through February 2007 for about $30.

Baby Trend Recalls Back Pack Carriers Due to Fall Hazard

Name of product: Baby Trend Back Pack Carriers
Units: About 4,000
Importer: Baby Trend Inc., of Ontario, Calif.
Hazard: The stitching on the strap of the carrier can loosen or detach, causing the carrier to shift, posing a fall hazard to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: Baby Trend has received one report of a child who bruised their forehead after falling out of the carrier. Baby Trend also received 17 reports of shoulder straps loosening from the body of the carrier.
Description: The product is a green/silver infant back pack carrier made of heavy duty nylon with a lightweight steel frame. Only carriers with style number 2512 and 2592LX are included in the recall. Style numbers are printed on the metal frame of the product. The carrier has a 5-point safety harness, padded shoulder and hip straps, padded leg openings and heat support. The carrier also has a top canopy and large diaper bag which attaches to the frame. "Baby Trend" is printed on the back of the seat of the carrier. The backpack folds into its own diaper bag for storage and travel.
Sold at: Discount department and juvenile products stores nationwide from March 2002 through November 2006 for about $50.

Estes-Cox Radio Control Airplanes with Lithium Polymer Batteries Recalled for Fire Hazard

Name of product: Radio Control Model Airplanes (Models 4153 and 4161) with Lithium Polymer Batteries
Units: About 66,000
Distributor: Estes-Cox Corp., of Penrose, Colo.
Hazard: The airplanes can overheat while recharging the battery, posing a fire hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: Estes-Cox has received nine reports of overheating, including one report of a plane catching fire and resulting in a minor burn injury.
Description: This recall involves Sky Squadron Model 4153 (sold at
RadioShack) and Sky Rangers Model 4161 (sold at Wal-Mart) radio controlled airplanes with rechargeable lithium batteries. The airplanes have a wingspan of about 18- to 20-inches and a polystyrene foam fuselage. Model 4153 is a blue Corsair single engine airplane with a Number 15 decal and a black and blue transmitter/charger. Model 4161 is a red twin engine plane with an all-black transmitter/charger. The model numbers are on the box and instructions.
Sold at: RadioShack stores nationwide sold the Sky Squadron Airplane from December 2006 through February 2007 for about $35. Wal-Mart stores nationwide sold the Sky Ranger Airplane from January 2007 through February 2007 for about $30.
