Next Step Plastic Sippy/Tumbler Cups Recalled for Laceration Hazard

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

 

Name of Product: Sippy/Tumbler Cups

 

Units: About 43,500

 

Manufacturer: Artcraft and Foremost Inc., of Moorestown, N.J.

 

Retailer: Mead Johnson Nutritionals, of Evansville, Ind.

 

Hazard: The impact of being dropped or banged can cause the cup to break into pieces, resulting in sharp or jagged edges that pose a laceration hazard to children.

 

Incidents/Injuries: Artcraft and Foremost Inc. has received 90 reports of the cups breaking into pieces and/or the handles breaking off, resulting in six reports of minor injuries such as cuts to the fingers and thumbs.

 

Description: This recall involves plastic sippy/tumbler cups bearing the "Next Step" logo. The 7-ounce cup has an aqua blue cap and a yellow, rubber-like material covering the handles and bottom of the cup.

 

Distributed by: Mead Johnson Nutritionals as a promotional giveaway to physicians and consumers nationwide via direct mail from September 2006 to October 2006.

 

Manufactured in: China

 

Remedy: Consumers should take the cups away from children and discard them immediately. Consumers can contact Mead Johnson Nutritionals for information on how to receive a $10 coupon toward the purchase of Next Step LIPIL baby formula.

Geometix International LLC Recalls MagneBlocks™ Toys, Ingested Magnets Pose Aspiration and Intestinal Hazards

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

 

Name of product: MagneBlocks™ Magnetic Construction Toys

 

Units: About 40,000 sets

 

Distributor: Geometix International LLC, of Brookfield, Conn.

 

Hazard: Tiny magnets inside the building pieces can fall out. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.

 

Incidents/Injuries: The firm is aware of one incident where a magnet became loose. No injuries have been reported.

 

Description: All types of MagneBlocks™ construction sets are included in this recall. The sets contain six or more plastic building pieces and six or more 1/2-inch diameter steel balls. Some sets include steel rods. The building pieces are various colors and are shaped in 1 1/2-inch cubes and three-, four-, and five-sided pyramids. The plastic building pieces have “MagneBlocks™” imprinted on them.

 

Sold at: Discount department and toy stores and Web sites, and other toy and arts and crafts stores nationwide. The MagneBlocks™ magnetic building sets were sold from January 2004 through November 2006 for between $20 and $120, depending on the size of the set. Sets currently for sale have improved warning labels.

Remedy: CPSC recommends children under 6 years of age not play with toys containing magnets. If a magnet comes out of one of the blocks in these sets, immediately remove the block from the set and send it to Geometix International for a free replacement block.

Graco Children’s Products Inc. Recalls to Repair Contempo™ Highchairs Due to Collapse Hazard

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall to repair the following consumer product.

 

Name of Product: Graco® Contempo™ Highchairs

 

Units: About 100,000

 

Manufacturer: Graco Children’s Products Inc., of Exton, Pa.

 

Hazard: The highchair can collapse if it is not fully opened and locked into place from the storage position prior to use. If the highchair collapses, a child occupying the highchair can be injured.

 

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 18 reports of the highchair collapsing. There has been one report of an 18 month old male who suffered a bruise on his foot. Additionally, there have been two reports of the highchair collapsing outside of the United States.

 

Description: The Contempo™ highchairs have an “A” frame design. The highchairs feature six height adjustment positions and three recline positions. The recalled highchairs have model numbers that begin with 3800, 3803, 3804, 3805, 3810 and 3811 followed by a three letter fashion code. Model numbers included in the recall include: 3800COU, 3800DRB, 3800FMT, 3800GGG, 3800GRM, 3800HEM, 3800JEN, 3800LEG, 3800MNS, 3800OWD, 3800SND, 3800TFE, 3800RIT, 3803HRL, 3804CNR, 3805BDA, 3810PEW, 3810PST and 3811PST. The highchairs were manufactured from October 27, 2005 through November 22, 2006. The model number and manufacturing date are printed underneath the snack tray of these highchairs.

 

Sold by: Babies “R” Us, Toys “R” Us, Target, Target.com, Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart.com, Burlington Coat Factory, Shopko, AAFES, USA Baby and various specialty retailers nationwide from December 2005 through December 2006 for between $100 and $130.

Remedy: Consumers should contact the firm to obtain instructions on how to receive a free repair kit. Consumers can continue to use the highchair until the repair kit is received but must make sure it is fully opened first. Consumers should open the highchair until they hear a “click” which indicates the hub is locked into place.

Target Recalls Baby Rattles and Ornaments for Choking Hazard

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

 

Name of Product: Plush Baby Rattles and Photo Frame Ornaments

 

Units: About 460,000

 

Manufacturer: Target, of Minneapolis, Minn.

 

Hazard: Small parts on the plush rattles and frame ornaments can break or detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Additionally, the rattles’ plastic ring can break and expose sharp points.

 

Incidents/Injuries: Target has received 11 reports of the pompoms, eyes, nose and bows detaching from rattles and frame ornaments, including one report of a baby mouthing a detached part. No injuries have been reported.

 

Description: This recall involves plush rattles and frame ornaments sold in the "See. Spot. Save." department of Target stores. The two styles of rattles include a pink bear and a green moose. The plush animals either have a rattle inside or a plastic ring attached. The photo frame ornaments are a pink bear or green moose holding either a square or heart-shaped frame.

 

Sold at: Target stores exclusively nationwide from November 2006 through December 2006 for $1.

 

Manufactured in: China

 

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the rattles and photo frames immediately and return them to the nearest Target store for a Target GiftCard worth the value of the returned item plus applicable sales tax.

U.S. Toy Co. Recalls More Children’s Butterfly Necklaces Due to Lead Poisoning

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

 

Name of Product: Children’s Butterfly Necklaces

 

Units: About 113, 800 (an additional 29, 000 necklaces were recalled in December 2006)

 

Importer: U.S. Toy Co. Inc., of Grandview, MO.

 

Hazard: The pendant on the necklace contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

 

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

 

Description: The recalled necklaces have pendants shaped as butterflies that are painted in various colors. The pendants hang from a black cord. The necklace’s package is blue cardboard with images of flowers and butterflies and the words "Butterfly Necklace" printed on the front and "Item#JA298" on the back.

 

Sold at: U.S. Toy Company retail stores and children’s and small discount stores nationwide and online at www.ustoy.com from August 2006 through December 2006 for about $5 per dozen.

 

Manufactured in: China

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take this jewelry away from children. Consumers should return the recalled jewelry to the store where purchased for a free replacement product, or contact U.S. Toy Company for information on returning recalled necklaces purchased on the Web site.

Name of product: Bright Starts Star Teether Beads and Bright Starts Teether Beads

Distributor: Kids II Inc., of Alpharetta, Ga.

 

Hazard: The flexible plastic ring that holds the teether beads in place can crack or break, and the beads can detach, posing a choking hazard to infants.

 

Incidents/Injuries: Kids II has received 24 reports of the plastic ring cracking or breaking and the beads becoming detached from the ring. No injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The Bright Starts Star Teether Beads (model 8483) has textured soft plastic beads in bright colors and various shapes connected to a flexible plastic ring. The beads on this model are shaped as stars, spirals and ovals. The Bright Starts Teether Beads (model 8549) has plastic beads in bright colors that are shaped as an oval and are connected to a flexible plastic ring.

 

Sold at: Discount department and juvenile specialty stores nationwide from June 2006 through January 2007 for between $1 and $3.

Children's Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings Recalled by Seena International for Strangulation Hazard

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

 

Name of Product: Children's Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstrings

 

Units: About 45,000

 

Importer: Seena International, of Yaphank, N.Y.

 

Hazard: The garments have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.

 

Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported.

 

Description: This recall involves children's fleece hooded sweatshirts, sizes 8-12. The sweatshirts were sold in black, brown, blue, red, grey, white and off-white. The words "BKLYN Xpress" and "Brooklyn Xpress" and various graphic designs are embroidered on the sweatshirts. A sewn-in tag has one of the following style numbers: BXFL72B, BXFL73B, BXFL74B, BXFL75B, BXFL77B or BXFL80B. This recall only involves sweatshirts in sizes 8 to 12.

 

Sold at: Various clothing stores, including Ross Stores & Gordman's, from September 2006 through December 2006 for about $25.

 

Manufactured in: China

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard or return the garment to the store where purchased for help in removing the drawstring.

Samara Brothers Recalls Children's Two-Piece Overall Sets, Snaps Contain Lead

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

 

Name of Product: Starting Out Shirt and Overalls

 

Units: About 200

 

Manufacturer: Samara Brothers LLC, of New York, N.Y.

 

Hazard: The coatings on the snaps in the overalls and shirt contain excessive amounts of lead, posing a serious risk of lead poisoning and adverse health effects to young children.

 

Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported.

 

Description: This recall involves two styles of children's overall sets. One set is a red plaid denim overall with a white shirt trimmed in red, sold in sizes 12 through 24 months. The other set is a navy blue corduroy overall with a white shirt trimmed in green, sold in sizes 3 through 9 months. Both styles have decorative train appliqués on the front of the overalls. The collar tag of the overalls reads, "Starting Out."

 

Sold Exclusively at: Dillard's nationwide during October 2006 for about $20 for the red overalls set and about $25 for the blue corduroy set.

 

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the products immediately and contact Samara to obtain a full refund.
