Girls' Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstring Recalled for Strangulation Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Hide & Seek Hooded Sweatshirts
Units: About 9,700
Manufacturer: Quiksilver Inc., of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Hazard: A drawstring is threaded through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported.
Description: The recalled hood sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood. The sweatshirts are pink, white, brown, navy or green with a beaded heart logo and embroidered flowers on the front above the left pocket. They were sold in girls' sizes SML to XL. "ROXY GIRL" is printed on the collar label. The style number 484241 (some with an M, N or NN after the number) is located on the garment's hangtag and/or the individual packaging label.
Sold at: Surf and skate shops, specialty and department stores, including Macy's, Nordstrom, Quiksilver and Roxy retail stores and outlets nationwide from November 2005 through January 2006 for about $40.
Manufactured In: Pakistan
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard. Consumers can receive a full refund by returning the sweatshirts to the place of purchase or by mailing the sweatshirts to: Quiksilver Inc., Attention: Consumer Replacements/Recalled Merchandise, 5600 Argosy Circle, Suite 300, Huntington Beach, Calif. 92649. Quiksilver Recalls Children's Lounge Pants Due to Burn Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Quiksilver and Roxy Girl lounge pants
Units: About 48,000
Distributors: Quiksilver Inc., of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Hazard: These lounge pants fail to meet the children's sleepwear flammability standards, posing a risk of burn injury to children, due to the possible ignition of the garment. These garments were not labeled or marketed as sleepwear, but because they are children's loungewear, they must meet the children's sleepwear flammability standards.
Accidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description and Models: The recalled loungewear was sold in girls and boys sizes 7 through 14 in plaid, camouflage, floral and heart print patterns with elastic or drawstring waistbands. Girls' items are labeled "ROXY GIRL" and boys' items are labeled "QUIKSILVER". For specific information on which models are included in this recall, consumers should contact the firm.
Sold in: Surf and skate shops, specialty stores, and department stores nationwide including Macy's, McCalou's, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Quiksilver and Roxy retail stores and outlets, from September 2003 through January 2006 for between $20 and $50.

Remedy: Parents should stop their children from wearing the recalled lounge pants immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a refund. If consumers are unable to return their recalled item back to the place of purchase, they should contact the firm.

Children's Cooking Sets with Glass Lids Recalled for Laceration Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: ALEX Super Cooking Sets
Units: About 4,200
Manufacturer: Panline USA Inc., doing business as ALEX, of Northvale, N.J.
Hazard: The glass pot lids can break, posing a laceration hazard to children.
Incidents/Injuries: ALEX has received a report of a 2 ½ -year-old girl who cut her foot from the broken glass from one of the lids. The cut required stitches.
Description and Models: This recall involves children's Super Cooking Sets, a 12-piece stainless steel set with miniature pots that have clear glass lids. Each set comes with a pasta pot with glass lid, stockpot with glass lid, frying pan, two potholders and utensils. The cooking sets were sold in a white box with a clear plastic window. "ALEX" and "Super Cooking Set" are printed on the box. A red sticker labeled "unbreakable glass" is affixed to the pot lids. Cooking sets manufactured after April 1, 2006 have stainless steel lids and are not included in this recall.
Sold at: Discount department and specialty toy stores nationwide from September 2005 through April 2006 for about $20.

Lead Poisoning Hazard Prompts Recall of Fun Express Children's Toys Given Away at Libraries

Name of Product: Bendable Dog and Cat Toys
Units: About 340,000 toys
Distributor: Fun Express Inc., a subsidiary of Oriental Trading Company Inc., of Omaha, Neb.
Hazard: The paint on the bendable toys contains excessive levels of lead, which is banned under federal law. Lead is toxic and if ingested by young children can cause adverse health effects.
Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported.
Description: The recalled toy is made of bendable plastic and is in the shape of a brown dog with black ears, paws and feet, a Dalmatian dog with pink paws, a white dog with orange spots, a brown dog with pink paws, a white cat with orange stripes, a brown cat with pink paws, a black cat with pink ears and a white cat with brown spots. The toys are about 3.75 inches tall. The toy's packaging is labeled as item 39/1461-K and 39/1461-KM.
Provided through: This toy was a free giveaway by libraries nationwide as part of reading programs from January 2006 through August 2006.

Name of Product: "Ideal" and "Brighter Child" Brand Science Kits
Units: About 43,000
Distributor: School Specialty Publishing, of Columbus, Ohio
Hazard: The battery case in the science kit can overheat, posing a thermal burn hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: School Specialty has received one report of the battery case overheating, which resulted in a young boy receiving minor burns to his fingers.
Description and Models: This recall involves Ideal and Brighter Child-brand science kits. Models included are "All About Electricity,"
"All About Magnets," "The Science Search Lab: Electricity," and "The Science Search Lab: Light." The kits were sold in brightly colored 11 3/4-inch by 12-inch boxes with a plastic window and door flap on the front.
Sold at: Educational stores and bookstores nationwide, and the schoolspecialty.com Web site, from July 2004 through May 2006 for between $16 and $24.

Spin Master Radio-Controlled Toy Airplanes Sold Exclusively at Toys R Us Recalled for Burn Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Air Hogs RC Skywinder Radio-Controlled Airplane
Units: About 7,500
Manufacturer: Spin Master Toys, of Toronto, Canada
Hazard: The rechargeable battery pack inside the toy airplane can overheat posing a burn hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: Spin Master has received 15 reports of the toy airplane's rechargeable battery pack overheating including two reports of minor skin burns.
Description and Models: The recalled radio-controlled toy airplane is lightweight, made of silver or black Styrofoam, and measures 19 inches from wingtip to wingtip. "Air Hogs Skywinder" is printed on the plane's wings. "(c)2003 Spin Master Ltd" is printed on the right propeller mount. The airplane comes with a controller unit and a charger.
Rechargeable batteries are preinstalled in the plane's fuselage. A date code beginning with 06XXXXHM is located under the plane's propeller, on the outside of the controller unit and inside the controller's battery compartment, and on the charger unit's stand.
Sold exclusively at: Toys R Us from April 2006 through June 2006 for about $40.

Pool Toys Recalled by Wild Planet Toys Due to Risk of Impalement Injury to Children
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the manufacturer named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should immediately contact the Company for refund or replacement.
Name of Product: Jet Streamers(tm) Water Blasters Pool Toys
Units: About 273,000
Manufacturer: Wild Planet Toys Inc., of San Francisco, Calif.
Hazard: When partially filled with water, the pool toy can stand upright on the pool floor with the rigid narrow end pointed upward, posing an impalement risk.
Incidents/Injuries: Wild Planet has received one report of an impalement injury to an 8-year-old girl who landed seat first onto a Jet Streamer left in a swimming pool and received a puncture wound.
Description: The Jet Streamers(tm) Outdoor Antics! Pump-Action Water Blasters are straight squirt guns for the pool. The Jet Streamers measure 9-inches long with a bulbous water reservoir at one end and a rigid tapering handle containing a small water intake hole at the other end. The tapering handle is gray while the bulbous water reservoir varies in colors of white/green, blue/yellow and orange/silver. Tiny raised lettering on the Jet Streamers' handles state, "(c)2002 Wild Planet Toys, San Francisco, CA, USA, Made in China." The toys were sold as a 2-pack set, in packages with other pool toys, such as dive balls and magnet dive gloves, and with boys' swim trunks. The product packaging is labeled "Jet Streamers," "Wild Planet" and is for children ages five and older.
Sold by: Target, Kohl's, internet retailers, discount department stores and toy stores nationwide from February 2003 through August 2006 for between $6 and $13 a set.

Remedy: Customers should immediately stop using the Jet Streamers and contact Wild Planet for a replacement product. The replacement product has an angled handle that prevents the handle of the toy from standing upright.
