 You must act.

Working every day in  health and human services, you probably often wonder what you can do to facillitate change.  To help you answer that question, Community Cradle has created a new Advocacy page linking the Capital Region community to our local, state, and national representatives, as well as advocacy organizations.

Do you think that you have to be "someone special" to be an advocate? You don't have to be a lobbyist, a lawyer, or in a three piece suit to voice your concerns and beliefs.  Most advocacy comes from everyday citizens participating in our democracy.

So here are a few tips to get you started:
  • Know who your legislators are.
  • Acquaint yourself with their views on the topic you are advcating for before approaching, calling, or writing.
  • Consider joining with others in the community that share your views to create a stronger voice.
  • When speaking with your legislators be honest and polite.
  • Advocacy is not a one time thing - be sure to follow up so you can develop an ongoing relationship.

By following these few simple tips, you can help to ensure that your voice is heard.
